Bulldozers Employed to Strengthen Fujairah Breakwaters against Cyclone Gonu

Several bulldozers were busy this afternoon (5 June 2007) shifting rocks to strengthen breakwaters and create new, high barriers.

CNN meteorologists (at 3.30pm UAE time) were reporting Cyclone Gonu’s winds at 233 kph, and reaching speeds of 278 kph. There were no signs of the winds weakening.

After striking the Omani coast with the centre of the cyclone around Muscat, projections were for the cyclone to move north in the direction of S E Iran. This path would mean the cyclone would move parallel with the eastern coast of Fujairah, UAE.
